As spring turns into summer, the days of childhood and being a young girl turn into womanhood. Then as summer turns to autumn, so too does the life of a woman change. We begin to get gray hair, and wrinkles, and belly fat, and chin hairs. We cry when we want to laugh and we laugh when we wish to cry. We pee when we sneeze and we snore when we sleep. Life – one change after the other. Good thing though, as the alternative is not so much fun!
Besides the mood swings, the hot flashes, the night sweats, the creaking and cracking of joints, life is a blast. Most of us have children that have grown up and left home. Most of us have our life partner that we have shared the last 30 years or so with, and we still have our sense of humor and adventure. And, think of all the adventures now that you have grandchildren and no monthly cycle to fuss over. Or – you soon won’t – some of us are lucky enough to continue to have a period well into our fifties. Hopefully that is not me, nor is it you!
So, this summer, the summer of the change to Autumn, remember that you too are changing, and that your life will be different – you will have time for yourself since the children are gone, you will feel differently about yourself, and you will look forward to the new stage of life that you are entering. Congratulations on having made it this far. And, by the way, for you ladies that had a hysterectomy – never fear, your body knows when you should be going through menopause, so you may have a hot flash or a night sweat too. And, there are always those nasty little mood swings!
Until next time . . . maintain your cool – one way or the other!
